A salute to my colonoscopy, and the condition under which I’ll be experiencing it.
(To be sung to the tune of “Anatevka” from Fiddler on the Roof.)
Slow and dirgey
Anesthesia, anesthesia
Here we go, down we go
Anesthesia
I think I’ve been this way before...
Anesthesia, anesthesia
Go to sleep
Very deep
Anesthesia
As they go up through my back door…
Blissfully unconscious while they’re
Up
My
Flue
Hoping waking up won’t be so
Hard
To-oo-oo
Do.
I believe in anesthesia
Give me more
Make me snore
Anesthesia
Pill, needle, mallet – knock me out
Real
Good.
So long, folks. I’m off to Nowheresville.
Buh-bye.

Having had to undergo 6 colonoscopies before I was even 50 was nightmarish so I can understand your pain. The very first one, they never knocked me out, and it felt like a Hummer had been driven into my rear end backwards at 60 MPH...with all the doors left wide open. The last ones were done by a gastroenterologist who was kind enough to knock me out. [Three cheers for Demerol!!] Even though my primary doc had sent me to him for a hiatal hernia he kept insisting on checking out the back end first and found several polyps that he said were only a month/month and a half away from full blown cancer so I guess it saved my life. [He never did get around to the hiatal hernia.]
Earl - This is off topic and I apologize, but I can't find a direct email address for you on your blog and I wanted to bring this to your attention.
I've been a loyal reader for a long time and recall your very entertaining posts about summer camp. This past weekend, NPR's "This American Life" with Ira Glass focused on the summer camp experience and it was very entertaining.
Here's a link to the free podcast/audio stream:

Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
