"A Quiet Marking of the Day"

Near my house

Is the Santa Monica Pier

On the pier

Is a Ferris Wheel

It’s my birthday today

I think I’ll go take a ride

Earl, I've never taken a ride on the ferris wheel. So, if you do, let us know how it felt. My birthday is not until June so I have time to consider it. But I don't really like hights, so what's the appeal?

Happy Birthday, Earl, many thanks for your blog and for your Cheers episodes.

You share a birthday with scary moviemaker George Romero.

Also born today in history is Don Davis, who wrote the music for the Matrix movies.

We even have a former Vice President of the United States, Dan Quayle, born this day in 1947.

Finally, my favorite non-Earl birthday, Byron Nelson. One of the greatest golfers in history, he won 11 PGA tournaments in a row back in 1945. That is probably the hardest record in all of sports to break. He is considered the inventor of the modern golf swing. He wasn't an Earl, but his nickname was "Lord Byron."
