"Rehab"

In baseball, when an injured player comes off the "Disabled List", they are sent down to the minors for an unspecified period of rehabilitation, allowing them to work their way back into shape before being recalled back to the Major Leagues.

Consider the following posts my blogatorial rehab, testing my energy, judgment and concentration to determine how close I am to returning to some version of full-time action.

I'm not at all sure that I'm ready.  It took me twenty minutes to write this introduction.  And the font on top is funky, and I can't fix it.

Oh, well.  Here we go.

While recovering from “Legionnaire’s Disease” – an epidemic I managed to contract all by myself – we spent ten days at our cabin in Michiana located on the border – not right on the border; the actual border is in the middle of a road – between Michigan (which is on Eastern Time) and Indiana (where our cabin is actually situated, which is on Central Time).

It tickled me to think that on, say, a Monday night at eleven P.M., I could look fifty feet across the street, where, in Michigan, it was already Tuesday.

You enjoy small pleasures when you’re convalescing.

Anyway, driving to our cabin, we were listening to the radio.  As we proceeded along, the signal from the local station we had tuned into began slowly fading, as the signal for a nearby local station began to simultaneously get louder.

Providing us with the unique auditory experience of listening to jazz and opera at the same time.

You know what?

It wasn’t bad.

Glad to see you're feeling better and ramping up back into action. Hopefully the dog is feeling less grumpy, too.

I wonder if the same thing happened (the two radio stations, not the Legionnaires Disease) to George Gershwin before he got the idea for Porgy and Bess?

I'm so happy you are feeling better. I think it's going to be interesting reading your future posts and seeing the progression from recovering to recovered.

Not to put too much stress on you (and you're probably planning on writing about this anyway) but do you know where you contracted the disease? I'd also be interested in hearing about how you found out that you had Legionnaires Disease and not something else.

Jim Dodd

Glad you are feeling well enough to start writing again. I had a very humorous welcome back that I thought I posted about 8 hours ago and now that I am back to see if I got any attaboys, it appears that I must have pushed the wrong button.

Glad to see you're back at it, be it in small steps or smaller, being back is the important step. Been watching the Jays? I stated early in the season that I think these guys will be in it all season, and they are. When they made those trades at the deadline, they set the tone for the rest of the year. They'll be tough to beat cuz they score so many runs - over 800 runs scored; no other team is even close. Anyway, I hope you've been able to watch some games, it's good for your rehab!
