Okay, I’m doing this backwards. But my enthusiasm pushed it this way and that’s how I decide things. So, right or wrong, that’s how it’s going to be.
Yesterday, I talked about my brother’s friend, Simon, who rejected the “show biz” track and claimed no regrets, except for maybe one or two secreted n the corners of his wistful eyes. (Or else I’m wrong, and it was dust.)
Today, as a follow-up, I was going to use myself as a prototype, delineating how, through a determining combination of genetics and opportunity, directed both towards a career is show business and away from a career in anything else, I ended up where I did.
But then, on a walk to get coffee, I remembered this song.
It’s a Country song and, like the greatest songs of that genre, it tells a classic story in an evocative manner. I love this song. The music and the lyrics and the beat feel ideally matched to capture the tone and inflection of the narrative it relates.
“Life Happens” introduces us to a girl and a boy who both once had dreams – the girl’s dream was show business, the boy’s, a career in car racing – and the way things turned out.
I will temporarily defer retelling my story for the umpteenth time – don’t you just love the way I drumroll future posts to inspire your enthusiasm?
Today, it’s “Life Happened”, by Tammy Cochran.
Now sit back, close your eyes, and take it in.
To me, it says it all.

ReplyDeleteDo I need to start the day weeping?
Now I can't get out of bed!
Interesting. I was expecting something really depressing, but both the guy and the woman seem to be happy, despite not achieving their ambitions - which gives it an original take on the idea of "dreams not coming true."
