One is health care. It would be sad and unworthy of our country if poor people died from the same health problem that people who could pay could be rescued from. This equality is probably not possible, but at least we should try.

The other issue is equality of access to the political process. What kind of democracy is it when only the people who can afford it get to participate in it? Again, perfection is unlikely in this area, but at least let's not make it worse.

The constitutional protection I was referring to was the equal protection guanteed by the Fourteenth Amendment. That may not be technically precise, but I think it's in the penuumbra.Earl Pomerantzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16963705121297866334noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7823625636675642409.post-49424106588310683852008-05-05T10:31:00.000-07:002008-05-05T10:31:00.000-07:00It's an Anatole France quote:The law, in its majes...It's an Anatole France quote:
The law, in its majestic equality, forbids the rich as well as the poor to sleep under bridges, to beg in the streets, and to steal bread.Yank Azmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10075398920978638842noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7823625636675642409.post-43820728146465934752008-05-05T10:20:00.000-07:002008-05-05T10:20:00.000-07:00Thanks for asking. Every child would know the Greek Gods by name, Famous men of Rome, and every historical "character" would have his storyline documented in whimsical cartoon format. Schoolhouse Rock would be a staple, not a blip. Anything left to be said on the education gap between the rich and poor? Between staples and blips? Didn't think so.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7823625636675642409.post-10105991410044060852008-05-05T09:44:00.000-07:002008-05-05T09:44:00.000-07:00There are a lot of rights that rich people are abl...There are a lot of rights that rich people are able to exercise that poor people cannot.
