The fickled finger of fate? Fickled probably isn't accurate but the phrase sounds pertinent to such an occasion. But it's one I don't want to talk about either, and I can't figure out a smooth transition so I'll just move right along to baseball.

Maybe you caught the Jays-Orioles game on Friday afternoon? Was the O's home opener and was the Free game of the day on MLB.TV. I ask because Mark Buerhle started for Toronto. Buerhle has to be every defenders favorite when he pitches. Using the ever so accurate number-Mississippi method to calculate time between pitches, Buerhle seldom exceeded 8 seconds (bases empty) or 12 seconds with runners on. 12 seconds was unusual; 10 seconds was the norm. Harris, for the O's, was pretty quick too, but ran around 10-15 seconds without runners; but he was rarely w/out runners on Friday.

Was a good day for the Jays and especially for Bautista who evidently had gone 0-for-NY in their opening series. But he was hot on Friday. What a swing, I love the way he attacks a pitch.

Winning 4 of 6 on the road to open the season ain't bad. I look for them to contend this year. If, as they all say, they stay healthy.
