My parents were educators, father a principal and mother a teacher. The August of the year my father retired (he retired in January) he was very hyper. I thought he would go crazy if he didn't find something to do. Of course, part of this was he'd not found his post work interest and partly it was that the month before Labour Day is the run up to the start of school.<br /><br />My mother retired some years later and had a similar experience. She confessed that she felt like she ought to be doing something during August.
