Work.
So essentially important that, as in the Seinfeld episode where Kramer went to
work without actually having a job, some of us continue to simulate the work process years after our actual formal
employment is officially in the past.
Still, however,
We go into “the office”, we put in a respectable day’s
“work”, and then we call it a day, comforted that, fueled by our sense of
responsibility, personal integrity and care, we have, once again, done the very
best we know how.
For what else is assiduous blog-writing than imagining you
still have a job?
With this in mind, every Labor Day, like all other job-holders and “job holders”…
We traditionally take the day off. (While still at least writing something.)
Contemplating, on this holiday from “work”, the innate
satisfaction of a non-job conscientiously well done.
Happy Labor Day, everyone.
To those who work,
And those who pretend they still do.
Which feels, almost but not quite, like exactly the same
thing.

Whether you get paid for it or not, work is work.
I, for one, appreciate your labours.
Work will always be a 4-letter word.
